2006 Coaching Retreat Recap Win the Tip! Member coaches convened at Lawrence High School on May 20th for the 4th Annual Win the Tip! Basketball Coaches Retreat. This year’s event featured Amy Stephens, the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Drake University. Coach Stephens discussed numerous aspects of her program philosophy and provided members with a keen insight into the past three seasons of rebuilding the Bulldog basketball program. Coach Stephens graciously stayed well-past her presentation to continue discussing basketball strategy with attending members. The 4th Annual Retreat also included a presentation from Coach Chris Davis of Lawrence High School, CBS Sports, and SkillsChamp Sport Camp. Coach Davis shared how his development of Coach’s Edge Software led him to his current NCAA Tournament Position with CBS Sports. Coach Davis also discussed how he implemented a form of the Grinnell College Offensive System with his high school team and how to save time and money in using video technology. Following the presentations, members discussed numerous topics regarding the game of basketball in open discussion session format. Members shared strategies, special drills, philosophy, motivation, offensive and defensive techniques. The 4th Annual Retreat concluded with an annual pilgrimage to the Memorial of Dr. James Naismith in Lawrence, KS. This was the fourth year in a row that the Win the Tip! Basketball Coaching Retreat was held in Kansas. It was the tenth Win the Tip! Member Event since the organization formed in May of 2003.
