Win the Tip! is excited to announce that member Don Meyer will present at the Win the Tip! Coaching Summit in Seattle this coming September. Coach Meyer, the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Northern State University in South Dakota, has over 800 career wins, reached the 700-win plateau faster than any other coach in the history of college basketball, led David Lipscomb to a NAIA National Championship in 1986, named NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1989 and 1990, selected to the NAIA Hall of Fame at the age of 47, and assisted coach Mike Krzyzewski with the Olympic Sports Festival South Team in 1983. Two Win the Tip! members were published in recent issues of Scholastic Coach. “A Complete Package to Beat the Zone,” written by Keith Cooper, Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Saint Martin’s College in Lacy, WA, was featured in the April 2005 issue. “A Couple of “Diamonds” From the Baseline Out of Bounds,” written by Julious Coleman, Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Boise State University appeared in the February 2005 issue. During a clinic at the NABC National Convention this past weekend in St. Louis, Duke University Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski told coaches to: “Remember your individual triumphs and they will lead to collective triumphs. Ask yourself, did I help change a limit? Did I make them better students, men, and citizens? Did I make them better? It is about the pursuit of better. You make someone better and they will make you better.” Member Spotlight! Mark Vancuren- the Head Girl’s Basketball Coach at Owasso High School in Owasso, OK. Coach Vancuren began his position at Owasso High School before the 2004-05 season. The position at Owasso brings him 'back home' following a stint as an assistant men’s basketball coach at the University of Texas at Pan American. Before making the move to the college ranks, Coach Vancuren spent over 14 years coaching high school basketball at Lawrence HS (KS), Seminole HS (OK) and Westmore HS (OK). He won the state class 4A championship and was named region coach of the year while he was the head coach at Seminole High School in Oklahoma. Mark and his wife, Sheila, have three children; Riley (6), Jaxon (4) and Avery (2). New Member! Greg Turcott- The Assistant Boy’s Basketball Coach at Bishop Blanchet High School in Bothell, WA. Congratulations to Members! Brent Davis- The new Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at San Jose State University. Coach Davis was previously the head men’s basketball coach at Bakersfield College. Ron DuBois- The new Head Basketball Coach of the Chico Force, a professional team in the IBL (International Basketball League). Coach DuBois was previously an assistant basketball coach at UC Davis.
