Shooting Sequence!

Member, Andy Carrier, the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Ottawa University frequently utilizes the following shooting footwork drill in practice….Place a line below the block along the baseline.  Place a coach at the opposite wing (3 pt. line).  First player in line passes to the coach and cuts straight up the lane, pivots on their inside foot while receiving the ball back from the coach.  The player will then proceed to do one individual move in a sequence of individual moves.  Following their first move the player will rebound their own shot and return to the end of the line.  Have two balls in a line to keep the drill moving quickly.  Once every player has completed the sequence of moves on one side, then have that line move to the opposite block and start the sequence over.  A variety of individual moves may be used including; catch and shoot, jab-return and shoot, jab and go for a lay-up, crossover one dribble pull-up, crossover for a lay-up, etc.

He currently ranks as the eighth all-time winningest coach in college basketball^. Meyer began his coaching career in 1972 at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn. After three seasons there and a 37-41 record, Meyer moved on to NAIA Division I David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. During 24 years at DLU, Meyer won 665 games and a NAIA National Championship in 1986. He reached 700 victories in only 916 games, which would rank him fourth against NCAA division one coaches. The only division one coaches to 700 faster were Adolph Rupp (836), Jerry Tarkanian (876), and Dean Smith (904)…..Courtesy of the Northern State University Sports Information Department

Member Organizes World Record Event!

Win the Tip! Member Jim Weeks, the Head Boy’s Basketball Coach at Beatrice High School in Nebraska was the event organizer for the longest basketball game in world history, as reported by the Kansas City Star (12/4/04).  The Star reported that on August 7th 24 people ages 15 to 35 participated in a 30-hour, 12 minute basketball game.  This topped the previous mark of 26-hours and 42 minutes set in March 2003.  Players could leave the court for one hour, but could not leave the gym for more than five minutes.  “This is awesome,” stated Jim Weeks, “I didn’t know it was going to be that tough.  It was more mental than physical.”  -- courtesy of the Kansas City Star (12/4/04).
