SHAKA SMART- Recently promoted from assistant men’s basketball coach to associate head men’s basketball coach at the University of Akron in Ohio. 

LARRY DAVIS- The new head women’s basketball coach at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, OR.  Coach Davis was most recently an assistant men’s basketball coach at Concordia University in Portland with Win the Tip! member Brad Barbarick.

STEVE FINAMORE- The new assistant men’s basketball coach at Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City, NJ.  Coach Finamore joins Saint Peter’s from Portland High School in Portland, MI where he was the head boy’s basketball coach.

ALEX NAVA- The new freshman boy’s basketball coach at John F. Kennedy High School in San Antonio, TX.  John F. Kennedy High School is a 4A school with about 1600 students.

Bill Salyers- The New Assistant Varsity Boy’s Basketball Coach at Miamisburg High School in Dayton, OH.

Members Celebrate 25th Anniversary of Yes I Can!

Win the Tip! members are helping the Yes I Can Basketball Camp celebrate its 25th Anniversary this week.  The Yes I Can Camp began at Heidelberg College in Ohio in 1979 and grew to include camps at Emporia State University (now held at Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS) to a third Yes I Can camp that is held annually in West Virginia.  The camp was co-founded by Stan Kellner the originator of Basketball Cybernetics and the author of “Beyond the Absolute Limit.”  The camp is built on bringing the mind and body together for peak performance.  "In my 25 year association with the "Yes, I Can!" camp I became a better coach, better person, and I watched miracles happen every year,” stated Win the Tip! Honorary Member Ron Slaymaker.  Win the Tip! members involved with this year’s camp include; Andy Carrier (Ottawa University), Christian Bishcoff (GHP-Germany), Ron Slaymaker(Retired-Emporia State University), Bruce Tate(Ottawa University) and Pete Van Mullem(Ottawa University).  For more information please visit www.yesicanbasketball.net  In 25 years of Yes I Can numerous coaches have worked the camp including Win the Tip! members Pat Hupfauf (Free State High School) and Brian Sudis (Avila University).

Leadership Tip!

At Lawrence High School in Lawrence, KS, Head Boy’s Basketball Coach and Win the Tip! member, Chris Davis created the “Davis Dozen,” twelve daily reminders of important basketball skills and concepts that defines what his basketball program stands for at Lawrence High.  1) Blockout…Position...Rebound.  2) Every loose ball is mine.  3) Defense, Defense, Defense.  4) I will pass ahead to the open man.  5) I will dribble with a purpose.  6) I will catch and square.  7) I will outwork my opponent.  8) I will beat my man through the lane.  9) I will encourage my teammates.  10) I am a role-model.  11) See it…Trust it….Feel it.  12) We are the Lions.
