LEADERSHIP TIP!
-----------------------------

The following teaching tip was submitted by Honorary Win the Tip! member Don Meyer (Northern State University).  In Lend Me Your Ears by William Safire he states, “The greatest teacher makes a few simple points.  The powerful teacher leaves one or two fundamental truths.  And the memorable makes the point not by telling, but by helping the students discover on their own.  Learning takes place through discovery, not when you're told something, but when you figure it out for yourself.  All a really fine teacher does is to make suggestions, point out problems, above all, ask questions, and more questions and more questions....teaching encourage not only discovery, but initiative.”

QUICKNESS AND AGILITY DRILLS!
-------------------------------------------------------------

Win the Tip! Member, Wayne Walters (Swarm Enterprises) submitted the following two quickness and agility drills…Quick "8" Forward (rt or lt):  Players start on the baseline on the block and close out to the same side elbow, they call "I got ball" when they arrive (or what ever verbal you use), next they diagonal slide from the elbow to the opposite block and repeat the close out on that side and slide ... you can do this drill with one player for a set amount of time as a hustle drill or a small group of player which means sliding players need to coordinate on the cross, with multiple players start the next player when the player in front begins to slide, monitor technique, if technique is bad slow players down a notch… and… "Rock and Roll”:  A variation on two player parallel defensive slide and pass designed to get players lower in the stance, instead of passing roll the ball ahead, make sure players "Sit down" and bend at the knees not at the waist.  A great conditioner.  We do competitive relays as the season progresses to add an element of fun…Coach Walters has over 180 handouts he is willing to share with Win the Tip! Members for $1.00 plus postage.  Contact him at swarment@comcast.net for more information.
