Leadership Tip!
In member Bob Frederick’s presentation at the 2003 Win the Tip! Basketball Coaching Retreat held at Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS, Dr. Frederick stated that you must honestly answer one question as a coach or a leader. “Do you want to help young people?”
Leadership Tip!
In member Bruce Brown’s presentation“The Role of Parents in Athletics” at this past weekends NAIA National Convention held in Kansas City, MO, Bruce stated that the #1 gift a parent can give their young athlete is to “release them to the game.” He went on to say, “By releasing their young athlete to the game and coach, the parents are telling their children that all successes are theirs, all failures are theirs, and all problems are theirs. There are not many places in a young person’s life where their parents can say, “this is your thing.” This can’t be done with friends, academics, decisions on weekends, or even movies, but it can be done in athletics.” Please visit Bruce Brown’s web site www.proactivecoaching.info for information on how to obtain the booklet, “The Role of Parents in Athletics.”
