Member Leads Team to First State Basketball Title in School History!

Congratulations to Win the Tip! Member and Head Boy’s Basketball Coach Dave Weber.  Coach Weber, recently led Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, IL to it’s first ever State AA Basketball Championship.  The following is courtesy of the Northbrook Pioneer Press…..Their star long ago proved he could grab hold of big basketball games right from the start and throttle them into submission.  At the Peoria Civic Center Friday and Saturday, all of the Glenbrook North players seized command of three ever-more impressive playoff games and never let up on their way to a glorious Class AA state title. It was the first such title in school history and the first won by a Central Suburban League team since Maine South prevailed in 1979.  The victory qualified as one of the more unlikely boys basketball championships in the history of IHSA state competition. As Weber put it Monday morning, "No one thought a team from our area could win a state basketball title."  The main thing, as Weber recounted shortly thereafter, was "these guys, all of them, their attitudes were incredible. I kept waiting for one bad attitude to develop at some point and it never did.  This was an historic thing in the state of Illinois; these guys will always be remembered for that."…..Dave Weber is the brother of University of Illinois’s head coach Bruce Weber.

Leadership Tip!

Win the Tip! Member Bruce Brown at the Win the Tip! Kansas City Coaches Summit, March 17th shared numerous key coaching points.  Here are a few of them: 1) Decide what’s important to me and make it important to them.  2) If the problem goes away I have confronted the athlete correctly.  3) Decide what I will compromise and what will I never compromise.  At what level do you confront disrespect and at what level do you confront effort?  4) “If they are not doing it, then you have not taught them to do it.”  5) For motivational purposes name your drills after the best kid who’s ever done the drill.  Bruce Brown is the Director of Proactive Coaching and a Special Presenter for the NAIA.  For more information or to obtain his coaching materials please visit www.proactivecoaching.info
