LEADERSHIP TIP!
------------------------------

In her presentation at the recent AAPHERD Conference in Salt Lake City, Dr. Colleen Hacker of Pacific Lutheran University spoke about coaching and the self-fulfilling prophecy cycle.  1) The cycle begins when the coach forms expectations about the athlete based on coach preferences, physical attributes and pedigree of players.  2) As they form expectations the coaches behavior and treatment towards the athlete changes.  This might include amount and quality of feedback, amount and type of instruction, and response to errors.  3) The coach’s treatment affects the athlete’s behavior performance and learning rate.  4) The athlete’s behavior and performance conforms to coach’s expectations…An Assistant Dean and Professor of Physical Education at Pacific Lutheran University, Dr. Colleen Hacker currently serves as a Sport Psychology Consultant for elite male and female athletes at an Olympic, World Championship, and professional level.  She has served as the Sport Psychology Consultant for the United States Women's National Soccer Team.  Under Coach Hacker, PLU's women's soccer team played for the NAIA national championship five consecutive years. Her club won NAIA titles in 1988, 1989 and 1991, and was runner-up in 1990 and 1992.
