Leadership Tip!
At the 2004 KC Summit member Rob Miller presented on the Role of the Coach.  During his presentation he mentioned seven principles that leaders and captains of your team should follow written by Bruce Brown (NAIA’s Special Presenter and Win the Tip! Member).  Leaders and Captains should….1) Serve and be the last to be served.  2) First to set example and last to violate standards.  3) First to communicate and the last to communicate  4) First to praise others and the last to draw attention to yourself.  5) First to defend and protect and the last to criticize.  6) First to confront violations and the last to ignore violations.  7) First to encourage your team and the last to discourage your team.

Goal Shooting!
A popular shooting drill shared by member, Pat Hupfauf at the 2004 Win the Tip! Basketball Coaching Summit.  Organize three separate lines across the free throw line (15ft.).  Put a ball in each line.  Players shoot and then move to a different line.  The entire group (all three lines combined) must make a set number of shots in a certain amount of time.  Have a manager, coach, or injured teammate count the shots.  You can compete by having two groups at different ends.  Set the time and number of shots made to the age and skill level of your group.

Post Success Drill!
This live Post Drill requires that your post player achieve success before completing the drill.  Put Player A in the post on defense guarding player B.  Place a line beneath the basket.  First person in line will come in on offense during rotation.  Station two feeders at opposite wings.  Player A guards player B.  1) If player B scores he goes out and a player from the line comes in on offense.  2) If player A gets defensive rebound he outlets to a feeder and both player A and player B touch the 3 pt. line and return to post position with player A on offense.  Remember:  offensive player must score to be done, new players rotate in on offense only after a score, after every change of possession the defense must outlet to a feeder and also, the offense can attack the bucket until a score or a defensive rebound occurs (go for offensive rebounds - live drill).  For more information please contact Coach Fred Turner, Oak Park High School fturner@nkcsd.k12.mo.us

A Simple 3-Man Defensive Drill!
This live 3-man defensive drill allows for three consecutive turns on defensive per player.  Players will be labeled A, B and C.  Part #1- Player A begins the drill with the ball on the wing.  Player B starts out in the post guarded by Player C.  Player A passes the ball into Player B.  Player C attempts to keep player B from scoring (remember LIVE DRILL!).  Part #2- Player A rotates to closest elbow, while Player C rebounds Player B’s make or miss.  Player C tosses ball to Player A, closes-out and Player A and Player C go 1 on 1.   Part #3- Player B positions himself on the wing.  Player C rebounds Player A’s make or miss and tosses the ball to Player B.  Player C closes-out and Player B and Player C play 1 on 1.  Note- Every player plays defense 3 consecutive times from 3 different spots.  You may use any 3 spots.  You may also add a penalty for not stopping the offense 2 out of 3, etc….  For more information please contact member, Mike Cole (Head Boy’s Basketball Coach at Bozeman High School in Bozeman, MT) mcole@bozeman.k12.mt.us
