A LOOK BACK AT HOOPS!
-------------------------------------
This will be the first of a five-part series on the history of basketball taken from the book, COACHING BASKETBALL edited by Ralph Pim and Win the Tip! Member JERRY KRAUSE. The following paragraph is taken from an article written by James Naismith on his perspective of the sport, -----The game is interesting to spectators as well as to the players, and may be made quite scientific by good judgment combined with good coordination. Several good points have been scored by two or three players working together. The number composition of a team depends largely on the size of the floor space, but it may range from three on a side to forty. The men may be arranged according to the idea of a captain, but it has been found advantageous to have a goalkeeper, two guards, three center men, two wings, and a home man stationed in the above order from the goal.------ To order the book COACHING BASKETBALL please visit www.coachjerrykrause.com

This is the second of a five-part series on the history of basketball taken from the book, COACHING BASKETBALL edited by Ralph Pim and Win the Tip! Member JERRY KRAUSE. The following paragraph is advertisement that appeared in the The Triangle, a publication of Springfield College in Springfield, MA. BASKET BALL, A New and Popular Game. Instead of KICKING the Ball, Toss it. Instead of KICKING a Goal, THROW it. Instead of DOWNS, Keep the Ball up. Like football it requires team play, tackling, blocking and passing. BASKET BALL can be played outdoors or indoors by small or large teams. It is interesting to players and spectators. LEADERSHIP TIP!
-------------------------
During his presentation at the Win the Tip! Basketball Coaches Summit in Seattle, WA, Coach Don Meyer discussed communication with your players. Coach Meyer states “get out of the office, away from the desk and take a walk with them. That way you have no distractions and both of you can focus on the conversation. This works very well when dealing with important topics or when cutting a player.” Visit www.coachmeyer.com for coaching ideas, information and free handouts
